I have been designing for D*Style and their dubstep, sister label HENCH for a little while now. Their output these days is mainly focussed on the digital market, as are most labels. The artwork and design has to take this into consideration and emphasis has to be put onto aspects in the design that will help buyers notice the artwork as HENCH visually and also be able to see the track information. You have to think how will the artwork look as a small 100px square on Itunes. The best artwork will balance a solid, uncluttered, well composed design, with a style of artwork that will really make the image 'pop' off the screen. This is why a lot of the artwork has large, bright, typography based imagery. Designing for the digital market is slightly restrictive as I like to play with subtle typography where I can, unfortunately this kind of work doesn't allow for this. You just have to adapt. Here are some examples of recent MP3 work I have done for HENCH.
